FACING THE TRUTH :  EXCUSES

Baca:

"Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death." James 1:14-15 NLT

Thoughts for the Day

When there is sin in our life, we often don't want to face the truth. Maybe it's something we are doing that is wrong. Or maybe it's something we know we should do but are refusing to do so.

We make excuses to others . . . to God . . . and even to ourselves.

"This isn't such a bad thing to do. I know people who do a lot worse."

"It's really not my fault. They left me no choice."

"God, I'd like to do what you are telling me, but I have all these other things to do."

"That habit isn't controlling me. I don't need help. I could stop anytime I want."

"It's my parents' fault. Look how they raised me. I didn't have a chance."

"I do so much good for people. Surely this one little indulgence is okay."

Consider This . . .

We can always come up with excuses for denying the truth, but today's scripture says the real culprit that leads to sin is our own desires. And there is no such thing as a little sin that doesn't really count. Don't compare your actions with what other people do to see how favorably you line up. Instead, compare them with God's holiness and his Word. Now how well do you line up?

Is there is something in your life that shouldn't be there? It's not going away until you face the truth. It's wrong--and it's your responsibility to do something about it.

It's time to stop making excuses . . .
