CRACKS IN THE WALL OF THE SOUL

Baca: Proverbs 25:16-28

Bacaan tahunan: 1 Chronicles 12-14

In ancient times, city walls were not just a symbol of strength, but the main protection for the residents inside. A strong wall made enemies think twice before attacking a city. Jericho, for example, was once a feared city because of its large and strong walls—then the Lord brought them down in a miraculous way. However, imagine if that wall had never been built. The city would be an easy target—plundered, looted, and ravaged.

Proverbs 25:28 confirms, "Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control." This is a fitting analogy. Indeed, we are like opening the door to destruction when we lack self-control: uncontrolled anger, dominating desires, hurtful words, persisting bad habits. All of these are like cracks in the wall of the soul, slowly but surely undermining our lives.

In the midst of a world full of digital temptations, life pressures, emotional fatigue—self-control is a necessity. We need spiritual discipline to build the wall of the soul to protect our hearts, minds, and sanity.

The wall of the soul is built through diligent prayers, reading the Word, quiet moments with the Lord, and supporting fellowship. The Holy Spirit will give us the strength to control ourselves, choose what is right, and stand firm when the enemy attacks our souls. Remember, our lives are precious. Therefore, do not let the wall of self-control collapse. Guard it vigilantly. --SAP/www.renunganharian.net
