WAITING FATHER'S WAY HOME

Baca: LUKE 15:11-24

Bacaan tahunan: Psalms 9-16

Sometimes we only understand a father's love when we are tired, in difficult situations, squeezed, in financial difficulties, when our decisions are wrong, or when life is not as beautiful as planned.

The story of the lost child portrays a father who keeps waiting. He does not close the door, does not erase his child's name, and does not calculate his sacrifices to make the child realize the mistake and want to return. Before the child says something and apologizes, when the child is still far away, the father runs to him, hugs him, and kisses him. That is a picture of love that precedes repentance: love that provides a way home.

Many fathers in this world imitate a piece of that heart: they may be firm, but secretly prepare a place to return. They may not always be able to help perfectly, but they try to be present in the way they know. Father's Day invites us to say, "Thank you, Father, for not giving up when I am in difficulty. Thank you for your patience longer than my mistakes." And for fathers whose hearts have been hurt by their children, may this part provide strength: a waiting love will not be in vain when we surrender to the Lord.

If your relationship with your father is strained, do not wait for a specific moment. Start with small steps, then let God do the great work. Respecting your father is not about closing wounds, but choosing the path of healing. Take one step back today. If your father is still around, meet or call him and say thank you. If he has passed away, pray for your family and pass on that love to the next generation. --TMN/www.renunganharian.net
