Baca: 2 CHRONICLES 28
Bacaan tahunan: 2 Chronicles 2-5
Ahas was truly afraid. A much stronger enemy army was on its way to fight him. Then the Lord sent Prophet Isaiah to strengthen him, and give him assurance of His protection (Isaiah 7). However, Ahas did not want to believe in the Lord. He trusted more in his idols. He even sacrificed his own children as burnt offerings to those idols (verse 3). In a state of confusion and desperation, he asked for help from the king of Assyria. The king came, but not to support him, but to oppress him (verse 20). His wealth and the wealth of his people were plundered (verse 21). Ahas was truly unfortunate. Yes, the king of Judah was truly unlucky, wretched, and miserable.
The story of Ahas shows how unfortunate someone is who puts his trust in man. When he thought he would get help, he actually opened the door to even more terrible danger. When he thought he would find relief, he actually became more oppressed and suffered. When he relied more on himself, he actually became more helpless.
Sadly, all these calamities happened to Ahas because of the bad choices he made. He turned his back on the Lord. He thought himself to be greater, stronger, wiser, and more intelligent than the Lord. He ignored His word. He rejected His messengers. His disbelief would cost him dearly, not only for himself, but also resulted in the destruction of his people. Therefore, let our faith remain anchored in God. He is the help that we can always rely on. --HT/www.renunganharian.net
