EQUAL TO GOLDEN APPLES

Baca: PROVERBS 25:11

Bacaan tahunan: 1 Chronicles 28-2 Chronicles 1

Shortly after exchanging WhatsApp messages about my defeat in an inter-RW chess competition, my nephew wrote, "It's okay, Uncle. Stay spirited!" Seems simple, but those words were like a rainfall that calmed my heated heart, which had not yet accepted the defeat. "Indeed, it is true that God can use anyone as His instrument," I murmured as I reflected on that moment.

Speaking of words, there is a type of word that according to the writer of Proverbs is very valuable, like golden apples on silver platters. Those are words spoken at the right time, which will have a positive impact on the recipient of those words. Writing is also included because it contains a series of sentences that can be read by others. A wise person understands when is the right time to speak those "golden apple words," which can be in the form of advice, suggestions, criticism, or harsh rebukes that may be uncomfortable or offend feelings. Perhaps not many words are spoken, but they will feel right, timely, and necessary.

Every day, the atmosphere around us is surrounded by many words, some of which sound meaningless, even vain. This is certainly regrettable, because as believers we can be used by God to speak valuable words. Let us pray that we can be used by Him to present "golden apples on silver platters" to others, who certainly need this type of words. --GHJ/www.renunganharian.net

THE QUALITY OF WORDS IS NOT JUDGED BY THE NUMBER OF WORDS, BUT BY THE IMPACT OF THE WORDS SPOKEN.
