THE RIGHT CHOICE

29 June 2026

Read: GENESIS 13

Bible in a year: Psalms 80-85

The Jordan Valley has plenty of water. Its fertility is so amazing that it is very suitable for developing agriculture, animal husbandry, and building a life. The beauty of the Jordan Valley is even referred to as the Garden of God (Eden). The Jordan Valley is also likened to the land of Egypt famous for its fertility due to the flow of the Nile River. This comparison indicates great economic potential. From a human perspective, it is clear that the Jordan Valley is tempting in a worldly sense: providing a guarantee of comfortable and prosperous living.

It is not surprising that Lot was tempted to choose the Jordan Valley. He saw great material benefits. Unfortunately, Lot's view was only superficial. He did not consider the moral decay of the people of Sodom who lived there. Thus, the seemingly right and beneficial choice ended in vain and destruction. Lot not only lost his wealth. His wife also died when the city was destroyed.

The events that happened to Lot should be a lesson for us. So that we always involve God in every decision making, not relying on our own understanding. Including in matters that seem right according to logic. We still need to contemplate in prayer and consider with His wisdom. So that we are not easily lulled and tempted by the various worldly temptations that seem enticing to the naked eye. Because no matter how much worldly wealth is, it is easy to lose and disappear. Only spiritual wealth is of eternal and everlasting value. --EBL/www.renunganharian.net
WORLDLY CONSIDERATIONS OFTEN MISLEAD. HOWEVER, CHOICES BASED ON GOD'S WILL MAKE LIFE FLOURISH.
